Hello bookdragons and happy Sunday! Let’s relax today with a little romance from Eloisa James I had the pleasure to read. I do not often read romance, but when I do, Eloisa James is my number one choice! And her latest release, Born to be Wilde, makes no exception.
For beautiful, witty Lavinia Gray, there’s only one thing worse than having to ask the appalling Parth Sterling to marry her:
Being turned down by him.
Now the richest bachelor in England, Parth is not about to marry a woman as reckless and fashion-obsessed as Lavinia; he’s chosen a far more suitable bride.
But when he learns of her desperate circumstances, he offers to find her a husband.
Even better, he’ll find her a prince.
As usual, there’s no problem Parth can’t fix. But the more time he spends with the beguiling Lavinia, the more he finds himself wondering…
Why does the woman who’s completely wrong feel so right in his arms?
Trigger warning: sex scenes and explicit content.
Great historical setting
First thing I loved in this book: the historical setting. I enjoy nothing more than to step back a century or two in England. The society (terrible for women but so fitting for female characters rising against it and showing their power in many ways), the rules, the outfits, I love it all! It has this Jane Austen vibe… but with WAY MORE adult content! Best of both worlds in a way!
Characters who will make your heart aches
There is a thing that always attracts me with Eloisa James’s books: how she can make us feel for and like her characters. I was really feeling Lavinia’s hurt or despair. Her excitement for her projects as well. It was so easy to step into her skin, and so, into her story. I dove into this book so easily, because of all the interesting characters in it! Parth was also quite the tempting bachelor…
Romance, passion and what else?
Of course, the romance was great in this book, the sex scenes were nice (even if there were some cliches), but what I also appreciated as a reader was everything else that made Lavinia herself, like her passion for clothing and sewing. She was a designer before the word existed, and a businesswoman as well! That made her a very interesting character and more complex than just a girl in love.
In a few words
Beautiful setting and scenery and passionate (and sometimes infuriating) characters.. the kind of guilty reads you won’t stop devouring til the end!
See you for a cup!
