Hey guys! I’m so excited to share with you my Archenemies review today! This book was so great and so much more than I was expecting, I need to talk about it! Also, if you haven’t started the Renegades series yet, read my 5 good reasons to do so!
Time is running out.
Together, they can save the world.
But they each other’s worst nightmare.
In Renegades, Nova and Adrian (aka Insomnia and Sketch) fought the battle of their lives against the Anarchist known as the Detonator. It was a short-lived victory.
The Anarchists still have a secret weapon, one that Nova believes will protect her. The Renegades also have a strategy for overpowering the Anarchists, but both Nova and Adrian understand that it could mean the end of Gatlon City – and the world – as they know it.
A superhero universe
There is nothing more to say: I love this superhero universe! The superpowers of all kind, the duality heroes/villains that we explore and realize not all is black and white. We evolve in a world trying to be rebuilt after years of chaos and anarchy. A world who is also resting on superheroes to fix all its problem. I like that this book is deeper than just a superhero story though, as the author brings a real reflexion: should we rest on super-heroes with powers to save the day, or would the world be a better place if everybody was not relying on others to be protected, and do heroic things themselves? There is no easy answer to that… but definitely enough material for a trilogy!
Nova and Aidan
I love all the characters in this book but I have a special love for Nova and Aidan, as well as their relationship. They have such interesting arcs, they dance around each other, and they both have pretty big secrets. I really enjoy reading about Nova doubts and her determination, how she follows her goal to destroy the Renegades, while also realizing they are not all bad. As for Adrian, his Sentinel secret is getting more and more dangerous, and I’m pretty sure it will not end well. Seeing how the secrets keep building up and up… I can’t help but feel the tension in me grow, as I wonder what will happen when all will be revealed. Something explosive and terrible for sure!
In addition to what was brought in the first book, all this villains against heroes, or this reflection on who can be a hero, this second novel add another level of reflexion: what people with power can do with it, and how it is easy to fall into abuse when starting with good in mind, and trying to make the world better. What means are worth it? When does the search for control and « a better world » becomes oppression? Marissa Meyer keeps the reading so interesting and more than just a distracting book, and I can’t tell you how happy that makes me. This book keeps you wondering, questioning, just as our young heroes!
In a few words
A second book even better than the first, diving deeper in this complex world and raising important and interesting questions, whether we talk about super-heroes.. or our reality!
See you for a cup,
