Hey guys! Today let’s dive in a sweet and moving contemporary, a book that left me happy and a bit emotional: Tin Heart! This book felt like a little treasure to savor, and the cover is not for nothing in it 😉 How pretty is it haha? But the inside is just as good!
When Marlowe gets a heart transplant and a second chance at life, all she wants to do is to thank her donor’s family. Maybe then she can move on. Maybe then she’ll discover who she is if she’s no longer The Dying Girl.
But with a little brother who dresses like every day is Halloween, a vegan warrior for a mother, and an all-out war with the hot butcher’s apprentice next door, Marlowe’s life is already pretty complicated. And her second chance is about to take an unexpected turn…
You get a heart transplant… what’s next?
Tin heart is the story of Marlowe, 17 and recently heart transplanted, and how she tries to deal with the after. When you were prepared all your life to die, when you were sick all the time and everybody was deciding for you what was best to keep you alive, how do you learn to take your own life in hand? Well, it’s hard! I thought this book really portrayed a realistic description of the struggles of being given a second chance in life… because someone lost theirs! There is hope, guilt, pain and a feeling of loss, of not knowing who she is supposed to be. And Marlowe is keeping it all inside… which I am sure you know is not a good idea!
In parallel of all this inside storm of feelings, Marlowe is also trying to live a teenager life: trying to make friends, living a potential crush (in a Romeo and Juliet kind of way- she is vegan, he is the son of a butcher!), dealing with a controlling mom and more! And everything gets next level when she finds out the sister of her potential donor and befriends her under a fake name!
In a few words
A sweet and lively story, full of colors, humor, and emotions. And on top of that, it also sensibilize to an important cause (donating organs) and to how more complicated it might be than we think! The perfect Spring read!
See you for a cup,
