Hey guys! Looking for a colorful and modern read for the summer? I can only recommend Going of Script by Jen Wilde. I don’t know how to describe this book best than by saying it filled my heart with fluffiness! But well, I will try 😉
Seventeen-year-old Bex is thrilled when she gets an internship on her favorite tv show, Silver Falls. Unfortunately, the internship isn’t quite what she expected… instead of sitting in a crowded writer’s room volleying ideas back and forth, Production Interns are stuck picking up the coffee.
Determined to prove her worth as a writer, Bex drafts her own script and shares it with the head writer―who promptly reworks it and passes it off as his own! Bex is understandably furious, yet…maybe this is just how the industry works? But when they rewrite her proudly lesbian character as straight, that’s the last straw! It’s time for Bex and her crush to fight back.
Meet the cast…
This book is all about great LGBTQA characters, but also teens from their time: make-up artist, Youtuber, TV shows actors, they are characters this generation can relate to 100%!
First, we have Bex of course, super cute (at least how I see her – maybe because she has curly hair and glasses like me lol), moving to Hollywood and leaving behind family and bad memories. She is ready to conquer it all, as an intern for a TV show she loves, and potentially come out to the world!
Then we have her gay cousin, Parker, just dating a cute model and great at encouraging the crazy side of Bex.
Finally, I’ll talk about Shrupty, Indian and homosexual Youtuber and happy to be. Such a great representation! Her character was fun and sweet and she knows what she wants when it comes to dating someone 😉
Of course, there are a lot more characters, but I’ll let you discover them through the pages 😉
…And the Script
Alright, we have great characters now we need a good plot! And here it is: Bex is a talented intern, and when she hands over a beautiful script for the TV shows she loves Silver Falls (with an LGBTQ character) and the manager decides to make it her own and erase her character, she is not going to let it go! Honestly, this manager is all you can hate about a straight white man with power. You could think it’s cliché, but daily life shows us that yes, such persons exist and abuse their position way too often.
It is hard to be in showbiz, especially as a girl and part of the LGBTQ community. Thankfully, Bex has friends ready to fight with her. Together, they are ready to fight for this show they all love and what to represent its viewers, no matter how they identify themselves or who they love.
In a few words
This book hooked me by all of its super sweet first love scenes balanced with a more serious fight to defend women and LBGTQ visibility. It was full of hope and joy, while also talking about the real stuff, and that’s what I love in my readings!
See you for a cup!
