I know that #pridemonth is over but seriously it should always be #pridecelebration in literature right? And one of my last reads of June/first of July was Red, White and Royal blue and OH MY 😱😱😱! I need to tell you about it!! (And you need to read it 😍)
What happens when America’s First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales? When his mother became President, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius—his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There’s only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.Heads of family, state, and other handlers devise a plan for damage control: staging a truce between the two rivals. What at first begins as a fake, Instragramable friendship grows deeper, and more dangerous, than either Alex or Henry could have imagined. Soon Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret romance with a surprisingly unstuffy Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations and begs the question: Can love save the world after all? Where do we find the courage, and the power, to be the people we are meant to be? And how can we learn to let our true colors shine through?
Love is everywhere
Yup, everybody can fall in love, no matter who they are. And sometimes, it is clearly not at all as expected… Alex, son of the USA President (a woman!) and half Mexican, hates one of the Princes of England, Henry. Until he doesn’t. Until he starts to feel quite the opposite… But being First son or Prince of England come with a lot of obligations, and not a lot of open minds when it comes to love!
Through the book, we follow (in a SUPER CUTE WAY) the relationship between Alex and Henry, how they turn from « hate » to friendship to quickly more. I’m sorry I’ll say it again but they are super cute together. Like first love can be. Don’t get it wrong though, there are some SUPER STEAMY scenes (loooooved them!). Between hiding their relationship to family, states or the Crown, as well as all the distance between them, it is not super easy for our two lovebirds. But they persist and we, readers, fall for both of them ❤️.
And so are politics
Beyond all the cute and fluffy and sexy scenes, this book also brings other topics on the table: LGBTQ relationships and their difficulties in general, the world of politics and all its dark secrets, and how we can decide we can do something for the world. Of course, it’s a romance and it’s all good in the end but still 😉
I thought he was a bit too old at first but then when he did the British accent I found he was great at playing the different characters and their emotions!
In a few words
I really fell hard for this hot LGBTQ romance, the characters were super endearing and the fact that they were important public figures added tension and complexity to their relationship. Definitely something to read this Summer if you haven’t already!
See you for a cup,
