Hey guys, hope you are doing well! Sharing with you today my review of Supernova (not that Supernova, but the other one, by Kass Morgan), a light-speed read, with hot romance and inter-galactic conflict!
With a galaxy on the brink of war and loyalties divided, the friendship of four Quatra Fleet cadets will be tested as their greatest enemy closes in.
Arrested for espionage, Orelia’s future is looking bleak . . . until the Quatrans make her a surprising offer that could save her life — and the lives of everyone in the galaxy. Reeling from a betrayal, Arran finds comfort in a sympathetic boy from Loos, someone who understands how hard it can be to fit in. But is it enough for Arran to forget his heartbreak? Meanwhile, Cormak’s position at the Academy is in jeopardy when someone discovers his own treasonous secret, putting everything he’s fought for in peril. And Vesper is on the brink of becoming the superstar officer she always dreamed she’d be . . . until she uncovers a conspiracy that shakes her faith in the Quatra Fleet to its core.
As secret machinations come to light, these cadets will be forced to overcome their differences and band together to restore peace to their worlds.
A book to devour
If one thing can be said about the Light Years series ( I think it is a duology from the end of Supernova but I can’t be 100% sure), it’s that it’s a compelling read! Kass Morgan is also the one behind The 100, and you can definitely feel the same vibe here: teens with the responsibility to save the universe, a lot of hormones (most of the book was really about the relationships.. it was a bit frustrating at time, like how many times did I read »the only boy he/she loved » and things like that. At some point, it gets old). There is also a lot of things happening in not that many pages, and the actions are not that detailed. Mostly, trying to stop a decades-old war between two civilizations. These are my two only problems (too much relationship gushy focus and not enough action description) with this book.
That being said, I really enjoyed it. It’s easy to read and has a good pace, like a good TV show episode (told you we have The 100 vibe!). Actions are in quick succession, and the fact that there are multiple points of view really makes the story dynamic. I really like all the characters, each different and bringing something. My fav would be Vesper, I love the tough outside, her calm in the storm, all of that covering a generous heart! Plus it’s in space! Always a bonus right? I think I have a very specific genre that I love: Sci-fi in space cadet/pilot academy 😉
In a few words
Fast-paced, lots of romance and space… quite a light reading perfect for a quick YA intergalactic trip!
See you for a cup,
