Hey bookdragon! I’m back with a new review! When I read about Entwined, and that it was about Greek Mythology, of course I could not resist! Even if the premise of love triangle scared me a little, I decided to give it a chance 😉

Avery Montgomery doesn’t even know if she wants a soul mate.
As a member of the Hellenicus—a race founded in antiquity and descended directly from the Greek gods—Avery’s attending her first Gathering where she’ll gain the ability to entwine her thoughts with her destined soul mate and be tied to them forever.
But all is not as it seems at the Royal Court. There are severe and strange looks from the elders, whisperings from the ancient Dodona tree, and encounters with spirits who seem to know Avery better than she knows herself.
Throughout these whirlwind events at Court, Avery finds herself torn between her feelings for the wise and protective Vladimir and the passionate, fun-loving Adrian. Unwilling to surrender her independence or to betray her heart, Avery must decide once and for all if she’ll give in to her desires and risk the wrath of the Gods.
Because who are you if your destiny lies with another person?

The descendants of Greek Gods walk among us!

Welcome to a world where Greek Gods existed and had human descendants, now they live among us. Not all of them have the same prestige, of course, better be a child of Zeus than one of Adrestia. We Pure Royals (from the 3 big brothers – Zeus, Poseidon and Hades), Royals (from other Olympians) and Regulars (all of the other Gods). They do not have special powers or anything (which kind of suck cause if you come from a god, there should be perks), but they do have one special thing: they have a soul mate. And through a ritual, they can find them. Once a year, all the Hellenicus who want to can come together, have lots of parties and games, and participate in this ritual, hoping to find their true love.

And they look for true love

Avery is going this year, but she is not so sure she wants a soulmate, because yeah, I forgot to tell you, but your soulmate can hear all of your thoughts, and you can hear theirs. No more privacy. Ever. Honestly, I understand her being scared.
Except that, when she goes there, nothing is as it seems. Avery renews with Adrian, the cousin of her best friend, and forms a new friendship with Vladimir, her best friend cousin (apparently they make them pretty in this family!). Definitely a love triangle there! And it took an interesting turn at the end…because remember, when you are a Hellenicus, you can fall in love, when you click for your soulmate, it doesn’t matter anymore!

But even Hellenicus have secrets

The other aspect of this book (which was pretty predictable), is that Avery finds strange things happening around her, from being sick after drinking nectar for the soulmate ceremony to whispering trees and strange people following them….maybe, she could be more than the Regular she thought she was all of her life…. like I said, this part was really predictable, and not always brought with subtlety. But well, I hope it will make the next book interesting!

Overall, I had very strong JL Armentrout vibes from this book, with how the characters were, but also the construction of the story. So if you love her, you might love this one too!
The weakest point was really the writing, sometimes I had the impression we were missing a scene or a description, even rereading to be sure I didn’t miss it! But no, it was truly not there, which really made some parts weird to read!

In a few words

Romance and Greek myths are here mixed together to bring you a simple but addictive story!

See you for a cup,
